Helen Levitt is a self taught photographer who started her career in the 1930’s. She was very fascinated by the mystery and fantasy within daily life. The pictures that she took were all of daily life on the streets of New York. Her Pictures are mostly exterior and in peoples most natural state, like children playing.
In July 1939 the museum of Modern Art in New York exibited her first show titled “Helen Levitt: Photographs of Children”. It Featured the subject matter children especially the underprivileged children. Some thing that Helen did other than taking photos was directing and editing a documentary film called The Quiet One with collaborator Janis Loeb.
Helen Levitt really interested me with her photography. I liked how her photos of people where in there ordinary state just doing what they would normally would be doing. I really like how she took most of her pictures outside on the streets of New York and of kids playing outside.
